Getting your Medical Evidence
You will need to have evidence of your disability or condition before you can apply for DSA.
- If you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia/ Dyspraxia), you will need to provide a full Diagnostic assessment carried out by an educational psychologist, or a suitably qualified professional. Contact Hallam Help if you need testing for a Specific Learning Difficulty.
- For other disabilities or ongoing health conditions, you will need to provide a letter from your GP or from a suitably qualified specialist.
Completing the DSA application form
You will need to complete a DSA application form which you can find by going to your Funding Body web pages below. You will need to submit the completed form to them with a copy of your medical evidence. Links to funding bodies and information about how to apply for DSA can be found here.

- Social work bursaries
Once your eligibility for Disabled Students' Allowances is confirmed, your funding body will ask you to contact an assessment centre to work out what help you need.
This is known as a Study Needs Assessment. Do not book this until your funding body asks you to.
The Sheffield Regional Assessment Centre based at SHU can carry out your Study Needs Assessment to make it as simple and straightforward as possible.
